Lake Titicaca



Day one

To Puno
After breakfast start the seven hour scenic drive to Puno with a visit to the Rachi archeological site featuring unusually large adobe constructions. Enjoy a Pic nic lunch and arrive to Puno early evening. After dinner out enjoy an early evening of rest in preparation for your expedition to Taquile where the community unanimously chooses to preserve their traditional way of life as in pre-Columbian time; including their ancestral social organization and values.

Day two

Begin a 3-hour boat ride on the Sacred Lake Titicaca, considered in Andean mythology as the lake of origin, where the water and sky meet and melt into a common magnificent blue. Visit the unique people still living like thousands of years ago on the only floating reed island in the world, Uros. Arrive to Taquile, and after lunch walk along the beautiful stone pathways to the plaza, and continue on to the west side of the island where we can peacefully watch the sunset. The sun is reflected in the calm mirror like waters.

Day three

Relaxing morning exploring Taquile before the afternoon boat ride back to Puno.

Day four

Visit traditional stone house complexes of Hatun Ayllu, a traditional highland community, en route to Sillustani. An ancient sacred burial site, Sillustani has an absolute calm, as though time has stopped, being an ideal place for meditative reflection. Time permitting, visit Umayu Lagoon and Island – a boatride of 20 minutes to a natural reserve for wild vicuñas and huanacos. Depart for airport in Juliacca.
